YORKSHIRE Day will be marked with a unique contest in Bradford next week.
The annual day will be celebrated at Bradford Industrial Museum on Tuesday, August 1 with the Yorkshire Hat Throwing Championship.
The event will be run by Bradford poet and showman Glyn Watkins, under Transnational Incorporated Federation of Formally Thrown Hat Associations (TIFFTHA) rules; which includes a ban on ‘hat fighting’ and dangerous metals in any hat (especially bowlers).
It was first run on Ilkley Moor more than a decade ago, and the idea behind it is to throw a hat onto a stand. Anyone can have a go, entry is by donation, and all monies will be given to the Museum by Bradford Woolly Heritage, the organisation responsible.
Mr Watkins said: “Myself, and Bradford Woolly Heritage, have run this event in many places.
“The last one was at Halifax Piece Hall, and that went really well, but in my heart I always thought Bradford Industrial Museum would be a top hat throwing place, and I am so I am so glad Vicky Clifton and the Museum team agree.”
The Museum, based on Moorside Road, Eccleshill, opens at 10am on the day and is free. The htat throwing will run from 11am to 3pm.
