A 23-year-old man from Sheffield has been banned from attending all football matches in the UK for three years and fined more than £1,000 after he verbally abused a teenage girl at a football match.
The incident occurred at the Huddersfield Town v Sheffield United football, held at the John Smith's Stadium, Huddersfield, on Thursday, May 4.
The man directed verbally threatening language of a sexual nature toward a teenage girl who was also attending the match with her family.
He was removed from his seat by stewards. The incident was then reported to the police, and he was subsequently arrested and charged with a public order offence.
The Football Banning Order will remain in place for three years. It prevents the man from attending any football game at any location in the UK, which are regulated for the purpose of the Football Spectators Act 1989.
PC Emma Wood of West Yorkshire Police said: “The behaviour and language used in this incident has no in place in football or wider society and left the teenage girl feeling distressed and upset.
“Anyone attending football matches should feel safe and have an enjoyable time without being subjected to verbal or physical abuse."
