A BRADFORD man will set off on a fundraising walking challenge in August to raise money for two charities.

Bingley man Jeffrey Long MBE, former paratrooper, is heading out on another epic walking challenge, covering 100km this August in aid of Bowel Cancer UK and Blood Cancer UK.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Gerry Barker, will give Jeffrey a civic send-off at 2pm on Wednesday, August 16, from Kirklands Centre, Menston.

Jeffrey, who will turn 92 this October, will be walking every day to raise awareness of bowel and blood cancer symptoms.

Jeffrey has raised approximately £400,000 from his previous fundraising challenges since 2007, and he is looking to raise further funds for Bowel Cancer UK from this challenge, alongside Blood Cancer UK.

For the last five years, Jeffrey has been receiving daily chemotherapy for cancer, which he has to undertake for rest of his life.

Jeffrey is also walking with a back injury he sustained in 1954 when his parachute malfunctioned and he fell several hundred of feet to the ground, severely injuring himself.

He now walks with a limp and a walking stick, restricting how many miles he can achieve per day.

Jeffrey has started two fundraising pages for this challenge. To donate visit justgiving.com/page/jeffreylongmbe or justgiving.com/page/jlmbe
