THE best curryhouses in Bradford have been announced at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The Bradford Curry Awards celebrated the achievements of professionals and businesses in the city’s well-known curry industry with 11 award categories.

People were given the opportunity to vote for the best restaurant on the Bradford Curry Awards website in the run-up to the event from a selected shortlist.

Best Restaurant People’s Choice

The International took the “Best Restaurant People’s Choice” gong at the fourth annual awards ceremony.

The International is a well-known, traditional haunt in Bradford that opened a second restaurant in Sticker Lane last year.

Its new 300-seater restaurant replaced The 3 Singhs and compliments its original premises in Morley Street.

The restaurant first opened in 1976 when Indian cuisine was a new feature to the British Isles. It underwent a refurbishment in 2019.

The family-run business has continued to win the hearts of Bradfordians.

Safeer Khan, Director of the International restaurant, expressed his elation at winning the accolade.

It comes after the business picked up the “Best Dish” award for its lamb on the bone in 2022.

He told The Asian Standard: "This win is very important to us. It's what we wanted to achieve.

“We have been working towards this, and it is the people who have chosen us, keeping us in business for so long.

“Our ancestors passed it on to us, and I'm sure they are happy.

“This award means a lot to us, and we are grateful.

“Inshallah, we will continue to thrive, and The International will be here again next year."

Best Restaurant Judges' Choice

Prashad was awarded the title of Best Restaurant by the award's judging panel.

The vegetarian Indian restaurant was founded in Bradford in 1992 by Kaushy and Mohan Patel, serving as a community hub serving the best Gujarati snacks and dishes to all who visited.

In 2012, the restaurant moved to new premises in Drighlington, taking over the former Victoria pub in Whitehall Road, and since then it has gone from strength to strength, picking up various awards and being included in the Michelin Guide and receiving AA Rosettes.

This year’s “Best Dish” was awarded to Sultan for its Chicken Masala, while there was a “Lifetime Service” award for Omar’s Balti House.

There are more than 200 curry establishments in the city and they were brought together for the first time by the Bradford Curry Awards in 2018.
