PANIC erupted on a Bradford street yesterday (Friday) after a firearm was discharged, which saw screaming and frightened teenagers running away from the area.
A police scene is still in place on Farleton Drive, Fagley, this morning following a shooting at around 5pm yesterday where two men were injured and had to be taken to hospital.
Local residents reported hearing "two loud bangs" and "screams and shouts" late in the afternoon.
This morning, about a half dozen police cars were at the scene and Farleton Drive was cordoned off, with a section of the cordon partially running over a village green area where children often play.
Officers this morning watching the street and carrying out their investigation, which involved a drone flying above the area for about a half an hour.
One local resident said: "I heard two loud bangs and realised that it was definitely not fireworks.
"I heard some screams and shouts and that's when the police came.
"There were some kids around playing as normal.
"I saw three teenagers who were just chilling out.
"They ran away down the street and looked frightened by the incident.
"This area is usually pretty quiet. An incident involving a loaded firearm would scare anybody.
"It's not nice, especially as it happened in the daylight."
Another local resident said: "I was in my kitchen when I heard two loud bangs and I knew something was going off.
"I thought 'What the heck is going on?'
"I heard sirens getting closer and then the police and ambulance service turned up.
"They cordoned off the road and said two guys had been shot.
"It's a bit scary especially when children are about.
"I've lived here all my life and it's usually pretty quiet around here."
A police spokesperson released this statement last night, which said: "West Yorkshire Police was called to Farleton Drive, in Fagley at 5.10pm on Friday.
"They found two men there who had injuries to their bodies that were consistent with a firearm being discharged.
"Both were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries.
"A masked male dressed in black was seen running off towards the Fagley area following the shooting."
