PIERS Morgan has slammed a Bradford-born rugby league player for his actions in a video that has gone viral on social media.
In the clip, which has amassed more than one million views, Canberra Raiders star Elliott Whitehead, who began his senior career at Bradford Bulls, can be seen participating in a reenactment of an episode of sport which has grabbed the world's attention.
Fellow Bradfordian Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in controversial circumstances on the final day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s.
Bairstow ducked under a bouncer from Cameron Green, tapped the crease and began to walk down to prod the pitch.
However, Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey sent an under-arm throw in after catching the ball, leaping for joy as he hit the stumps and the visitors proceeded with a deeply divisive appeal as Bairstow was given out stumped.
Celebrating a try against St. George Illawarra Dragons, in comical fashion Canberra paid tribute to Carey, leaving Morgan bemused.
The TV personality said: "Just found out the batsman in this shameful spirit-of-the-game mocking stunt is not only English but a Yorkshireman.
"What on earth are you doing Elliott Whitehead? Are you a closet Australian?"
