A BRADFORD councillor has spoken out over "heartbreaking" incidents faced by a Bradford cat rescue organisation.

They happened over the weekend at Peel Park.

On Saturday, one rescue mission took place to save the life of a cat that had been thrown into the lake sellotaped in a box in a heavy-duty bag.

It was described as one of the "worst rescue situations" in the 15-year history of the Bradford Cat Watch Rescue and Sanctuary.

Despite the efforts of volunteers and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the kitten, named Moses, sadly didn't survive.

The following day another incident was reported where a young boy found a kitten near the same lake in a horrific condition.

This kitten, Nemo, was provided with emergency care and taken to Abbey House Veterinary Hospital.

Councillor Suhail Choudhry (Lab, Bolton and Undercliffe) expressed his concern after the two tragic incidents,

He has urged anyone with information to contact the RSPCA.

He said: "It’s really heartbreaking to know that these cats have been purposely harmed and left in the park.

"Anyone who has any information should contact the RSPCA cruelty line.

"No animal should be treated in such a manner, we owe a duty of care to all."

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) has now provided a comment and described it as a "distressing case of unimaginable cruelty".
