The Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Gerry Barker is inviting people to attend an event to remember the sacrifices made by the Bradford Pals during the First World War.
Bradford Council will commemorate the 107th Anniversary of the sacrifice made by the men of the West Yorkshire Regiment including the Bradford Pals during the First World War on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
A service will be held on Saturday at 11am at the memorial to the Bradford Pals in the Memorial Gardens behind the Bradford Cenotaph.
The Lord Mayor will give a welcome and introduction. This will be followed by an address by the Bradford WW1 Group President, Tricia Restorick.
The Last Post will be played by Ed Handley of the Queensbury Music Centre, after which a one minute silence will be observed, with the Reveille ending the silence.
The Lord Mayor said: “The sacrifices of those young men from Bradford who came together to form the Bradford Pals and who gave so much during the First World War and particularly the Battle of the Somme should never be forgotten.
"We should also remember the grief and suffering of those families whose loved ones never returned home.
“We hope that people will join us at this important commemoration.”
