The UK Space Agency will be docking its 72ft model rocket in Bradford city centre this July.

The 'Space for Everyone' STEAM tour is coming to Centenary Square between July 6 and July 10.

The awe-inspiring sight hopes to captivate the next generation by educating them about space and life on earth.

Visitors will have the unique opportunity to witness first-hand how space technologies benefit our daily lives as well as huge efforts to explore the great unknown.

People can also learn about the space industry in West Yorkshire by chatting to the World Wildlife Fund for Nature with British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and Amaze Lab.

UK Space Agency Deputy CEO, Ian Annett, said: “Our Space for Everyone tour is an exciting opportunity for young people, and their parents and teachers, in Bradford to see first-hand what it is really like to work in the space sector and to learn about careers in this growing and exciting industry.

“The space sector requires various skills – many not traditionally associated with it – and champions inclusivity and the need for innovation.

“You don’t have to be a rocket scientist, or even an astronaut, as there are a host of talents needed to bring space closer to our daily lives and improve our understanding of this critical part of the environment for the benefit of the planet and its people.”

Space for Everyone promises an immersive experience, incorporating state-of-the-art virtual reality headsets to show what a launch from the UK looks like.

You can also discover the different job roles involved in making a launch happen.

Meanwhile there’s a chance to learn about the crucial role of satellites.

British astronaut Tim Peake said: “It took thousands of people to make my mission to the International Space Station possible and there is a huge variety of careers on offer in space right here in the UK.”

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: “It is a real honour that Bradford has been chosen by the UK Space Agency as the only West Yorkshire venue. The 72-foot replica rocket in Centenary Square will be a sight not to be missed.

“As the youngest city in the country, with around a quarter of our residents under the age of 18, we are the perfect place for the UK Space Agency to inspire young people to consider a career in the space sector and wider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) areas."
