A LEADING musical production is set to stop off at a Bradford theatre during its UK tour later this year.
Jesus Christ Superstar will run at The Alhambra Theatre from Monday, November 27, to Saturday, December 2, 2023.
Initial casting has been announced for the UK tour of the Olivier Award-winning reimagined production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s celebrated musical.
Ian McIntosh, who has previously starred in smash-hit musicals We Will Rock You, Follies, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and is an Olivier Award-nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical will play Jesus.
Shem Omari James, who has starred in the Dreamgirls UK Tour, will play Judas and Hannah Richardson, who has appeared in Sting’s The Last Ship, plays Mary. Further casting is to be announced.
A global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for decades, the musical’s iconic 1970s rock score was originally released as a concept album and opened on Broadway in 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre.
The original London production ran for more than eight years. By the time it closed, after 3,358 performances, it had become the longest-running musical in West End history at that time.
Jesus Christ Superstar has been reproduced regularly around the world in the years since its first appearance.
Jesus Christ Superstar is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks of the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas.
The legendary score includes songs including I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane and Superstar.
Jesus Christ Superstar runs at The Alhambra Theatre from Monday, November 27 to Saturday, December 2.
Evening shows start at 7.30pm, the Wednesday matinee is at 2pm and the Saturday matinee is at 2.30pm.
A signed performance will be held on Thursday, November 30 from 7.30pm and a captioned show on Friday, December 1 at 7.30pm.
An audio-described performance is on Saturday, December 2, from 2.30pm. The show is recommended for anyone aged 10 and over.
