A RESIDENT has shared the horrors her community has faced after the recent blight of fly-tipping left seven mattresses near their homes.
Lee Lane in the Bradford village of Cottingley has been hit with ‘horrendous’ fly-tipping, with mattresses being discarded on the side of the road, the latest incident.
A woman who got in touch with the T&A and wishes to remain anonymous raised her concerns, after the most recent incident - claiming people dump all sorts of rubbish all the time.
Se said: “It’s absolutely horrendous.
“People leave bags of rubbish, there were 17 bags of builder’s rubble at one point just yesterday someone had dumped seven mattresses.
“We’ve been in touch with the council, and they get rid of it, but it shouldn’t be happening in the first place.
“We don’t know what more to do, we’re absolutely sick to the teeth with this.
“There’s always something and how many more times can we report it.
“We need cameras and we need to catch the people who are doing this."
In the past month, residents have logged each fly-tipping incident in the village to highlight how serious the situation is.
The fly-tipping isn’t only taking place overnight, with residents claiming rubbish is being ‘dumped’ around the village at all times of the day, but due to a lack of cameras, the perpetrators haven’t been caught.
Bradford Council is investigating fly-tipping in Cottingley and arrangements have been to remove the most recent bout.
The situation is being taken ‘seriously’ and the council is doing everything to crack down on fly-tipping in the area.
Residents are being asked to report instances and information on fly-tipping to the council, via the council website.
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “Our Environment Enforcement Officers are aware of this fly-tipping and are investigating it. Arrangements have also been made for its removal.
“We take fly-tipping very seriously, as it blights communities and is unacceptable so we do everything we can to crack down on it.
“If anyone has information about fly-tipping, please report it at www.bradford.gov.uk/flytipping or call 01274 432111.”
