On June 21, 1948, the Empire Windrush arrived at the Port of Tilbury, bringing the first Caribbean migrants who would help to rebuild post-war Britain.
The famous journey from the Caribbean came to symbolise an entire generation who made sacrifices and fought against adversity to build a new life in the UK.
From postal workers to NHS nurses, they were highly-skilled people who answered the Government’s call for help.
