A COMMUNITY stalwart has won a prestigious award for her role in creating life-changing mental health support in Bradford.
Saliha Sadiq, who was last year's Telegraph & Argus Community Stars Award Fundraiser of the Year, has broken down barriers and stigma throughout the past two decades.
The social worker and counsellor from East Morton has created culturally-sensitive projects for people in all stages of life.
She was among 27 Bradfordians nominated for the The Yorkshire Choice Awards.
The awards, founded by Joanne Maltby and Melanie Malcolm, recognises the inspirational people and independent businesses who go above and beyond for others.
Saliha’s Volunteer of the Year award was presented by broadcaster Christa Ackroyd.
Elizabeth Hellmich MBE, who works with Saliha at the Millan Centre, said: “Saliha has had such positive impacts on through her counselling and outreach work, much of it on a voluntary basis, particularly those from the Millan Centre and the ones whose lives she has brought back from the brink and saved.”
