A COUNCILLOR has spoken out after a "horrendous" hit-and-run crash which left a man with life-threatening injuries.

Cllr Paul Sullivan (Con, Bingley Rural) described the incident as "really concerning" and said he has been working on plans for speed-calming measures in the area.

The cyclist was travelling towards the St Ives Estate on Keighley Road, Harden, when the crash happened, leaving him with serious head injuries, a broken pelvis and internal bleeding.

Cllr Sullivan said: “This is horrendous, I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

“I heard about it, but I didn’t know his injuries were that bad.

“This is really concerning and not just because me and my wife are cyclists.”

Councillor Sullivan said he has been working on putting measures in place around the Keighley Road area.

“I’ve been working on this for months, not just since I heard about this," he said.

“We’re looking to get some speed bumps, and flashing lights to show you to slow down and we are considering an island in the middle of the road.

“Further down to the village, we are potentially getting a zebra crossing.

“It’s about getting them to slow down and that’s why we are getting this infrastructure in place.”

Police have urged anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the crash, to come forward.

In a statement issued on Monday morning, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision which left a cyclist with life-threatening injuries.

"The collision happened on Keighley Road, north of Harden village, near Bingley, at 9:25am yesterday morning (June 11) and involved a pedal cycle and a Suzuki Baleno car."
