A BRADFORD man broke an order which banned him from begging and acting as if he was homeless.

Michael Eggett, 24, of Brookfield Road, Barkerend, was handed a community order at Leeds Magistrates' Court last Friday after being found guilty of breaching a criminal behaviour order at an earlier hearing.

The 24-year-old had pleaded not guilty on March 13 at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court.

Court records show Eggett was caught either begging or giving the impression to another person that he was homeless in Leeds Road on March 12 this year.

He was forbidden from doing this by a criminal behaviour order imposed by Huddersfield Magistrates' Court on March 15 last year.

Eggett was initially remanded on conditional bail after the first hearing in the case on March 13, with a curfew banning him from leaving his home between 6pm and 10pm.

But he was arrested on March 23, after he was found on Leeds Road at 8pm.

Police officers were called to an emergency report of an altercation between two males and Eggett was present when they arrived.

He was remanded in custody following a hearing the day after his arrest, with his bail revoked for breaching its conditions.

The case was listed for a bail application on March 30 and then again on April 27 but Eggett was remanded in custody again on both occasions.

He was then found guilty after trial on May 17 and remanded in jail again until he was sentenced.

Eggett's community order includes up to 40 rehabilitation activity days and he also must pay the court £434.

This includes costs of £320 and a £114 surcharge to fund victim services.

The total amount will be deducted from Eggett's benefits.
