A BRADFORD man is to pay the courts just over £3,000 for playing amplified music across three days.

James Hopson, 53, of Beldon Road, Great Horton, Bradford was found guilty of contravening or failing to comply with an abatement notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court last Thursday.

The 53-year-old did not appear at court and the case was proved in his absence.

Hopson was handed an abatement notice by Bradford Council on January 27 last year.

This related to causing a noise nuisance to properties around his home by playing amplified music.

An abatement notice can require whoever is responsible to stop the activity or limit it to certain times to avoid causing a nuisance and can include specific actions to reduce the problem.

But Hopson did not comply on or about September 14, September 15 and September 19 in 2022.

He was ordered to pay £3,008.50 in total.

This included a £1,155 fine, a surcharge of £462 to fund victim services and costs of £1,391.50.

The court made a collection order.

The total balance must be paid by June 8.
