A POPULAR Bradford city centre bar is to shut to the public later this month.

Al's Juke Bar has been on the corner of Darley Street and Duke Street, once the home of computer games store Game, since 2019 - moving from North Parade after five years.

Owner Steve Le Shaw says the bar will be having one last party, with music from The Good Citizens, before shutting on Friday, June 16.

After this date, the bar will only be used for ticketed events and private parties.

A post on the bar's Facebook page read: "Well, as another one of our five-year projects moves onto its next phase it’s only right we give everyone one last chance to Party On Down.

"Friday, June 16, will be the final night that @jukebarbradford is open to the public so we’d love to see you all there.

"We’ll be signing off with local legends @thegoodcitizensband who never fail to disappoint. Always a cracking night when these guys are in.

"After that, it’ll be ticketed events and private parties only."

Mr Shaw encouraged punters to visit Al's Dive Bar which is located next door.

The cocktail bar opened last year with the aim to serve 'new and inventive' beverages and help boost the nighttime economy.

The post added: "The baton has now been passed next door, to the great people at @alsdivebar who will continue to show the love and will be working hard to create the great nights, drinks, music and atmosphere that’s become synonymous with Al’s bars over the years.

"Rest assured that they’ll be continuing all the traditional annual events brought over from Dime Bar back in the day. Half Christmas Eve the next one is on Saturday, June 24.

"Should anyone wish to hire the venue for your event please get in touch. We’re also open to discussions if anyone wants to do something more permanent or regular here."

At the time, Mr Shaw said: " We've got Al's Juke bar next door but that's more of a music venue, so we wanted somewhere nearby where people can come to relax in an intimate setting but can flit between the two if they want."

It comes after Bradford Council revealed the completion of Darley Street Market has been moved into 2024 in March.

Traders have to wait until Spring 2024 to set up their stalls instead of the previous Autumn 2023 date.
