RateMyTakeaway’s Danny Malin has given his verdict on a popular restaurant between Leeds and Bradford.
Lala’s, on Bradford Road in Pudsey, was previously named the best Asian Restaurant in the North of England at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Businessman Junior Rashid transformed the former pub building into a classy restaurant serving Kashmiri dishes in early 2020.
After passing by the opulent restaurant many times, Danny decided it was high time for a review at his famous camping table.
He was recommended the mixed starter, Lala’s signature chicken keema mix, pilau rice and a family garlic naan. The bill came to £33.40.
“It’s like being in the hotel when I went to New York here,” the YouTube star said.
When he was waiting for his order, one customer told Danny he’d eaten the best curry he’d ever had in his life at Lala’s.
As Danny’s expectations grew, he wasn’t left disappointed by his order.
“This smells absolutely amazing.”
He dug into the mixed grill, topped with fried onion, first.
“The flavour coming out of that fish, lightly battered, that’s absolutely gorgeous.
“Charred chicken, seasoned up, nice and mild.
“That chicken were nice and tasty, just the right amount of spice I can feel a little burn at the back of my throat.
“So then we’ve got a big kebab, it smells good, there’s lots of seasoning in there. That has got flavour, oh yes, it’s got a bit of a citrusy taste but a bit of a burn as well.
“Chicken wings charred up, light bit of seasoning, but what’s coming through most is the charring from the BBQ grill. For £15 the flavour on that’s really good.
“Lamb chops baby, nice bit of lamb, this has got a light paste to it. That is absolutely amazing. That’s got a bit of a sweetness to that.
“It’s different from mixed grills I’ve had before because there’s different flavours coming through.”
The pilau left flavours of nutmeg on Danny’s tongue while he described the keema chicken thigh as “bang on”.
“Here comes the heat,” he said.
“My mouth is starting to go on fire. When you first put it in your mouth it tastes fresh, I don’t think I’ve tasted a curry like this before. This is really flavoursome.”
The family garlic naan was “spot on” according to Danny’s culinary expertise.
“The naan is absolutely brilliant, bang on.
“I’ll be taking that home,” he said.
“That for me is the perfect naan bread.
“The curry, this blew me away. It’s an authentic curry, it tastes absolutely amazing.
“I can’t give it nothing less than a solid 10. It’s hit all the buttons for me.”
