The legacy of the Windrush generation has inspired a group of walkers to look towards the past and future.

It is 75 years since the Windrush ship carried one of the first large groups of West Indian immigrants from Jamaica to the UK.

It was an answer to the Government’s call to rebuild Britain after the second world war.

The seven mile sponsored walk will pass through key places linked to the Caribbean community in Bradford.

Funds will go towards a new safe space for young people at Checkpoint, the West Indian Community Centre, in the city centre.

Fundraiser Nagbea Nagbea said: “It’s a way of showing my respect for the generation that went before us and helped build our lives in the UK, to remind people of the massive contribution they made.

“It’s a nice way for us to thank the elders and remind them we’re grateful for their hard work to build these places for us.

“Some of the places we’re visiting have played a massive role.

“We’ve had a really good response. It’s going to be a really diverse set of walkers.”

The walk will start at 9.30am on Sunday, May 28.

Stops include Checkpoint, Railway Social Club, PRS Yorkshire, MAPA, Mary Seacole, BHCA, ACAP, Dominican Association, ARIYA, Koko Bay, Lefteris, Trapezium, Being Bradford, Rumshackalack, and Tropikal Foods.
