A RECREATION ground in Cleckheaton is in line for a revamp including a new play area, as part of a £9.5m project to improve play spaces.
Moorend Recreation Ground, which is also known as Moorend Park, is set to be upgraded and local people are being asked about plans for the area.
Kirklees Council, in conjunction with councillors for the ward, has created a new design for the play area, and they want to hear what residents think about the current proposals.
The draft design includes relocating the play area to the opposite side of the field away from the busy road.
It also involves installing new play equipment and natural play features, such as play rocks and log, and fitness equipment.
In addition, there would be a new path to the relocated play area, as well as improvements to the entrance paths.
As a first step in the process, the Council is gathering feedback from the local community on the proposed design.
Then, amendments could be made based on the feedback received, if practicable.
Online, the Council states: “A draft design has been created to improve the play space here. The new design aims to make the play provision more appealing and accessible to all age groups by using a variety of play equipment types and natural play features.”
They are keen to hear everyone’s views, and are encouraging parents and carers to fill out the survey alongside their children, if possible.
Councillor Mather, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “The plan to invest in Moorend Recreation Ground in Cleckheaton is part of the £9.5m Playable Spaces Strategy designed to provide a diverse range of high-quality play options for all ages across our district.
“The initial design for Moorend Recreation Ground has been created in conjunction with the Ward Councillors and is now open to feedback from residents and users of the park before being finalised. This is to make sure that any improvements to the space meet the needs of the local community.
“The public consultation for this site ends on the 4 June, so residents have plenty of time left to have their say on the plans.”

Other playgrounds in the area that are included in the Playable Spaces project include Birkenshaw Bottoms, Birkenshaw Park, Howden Clough recreation ground, and Roberttown recreation ground.
These are all at various stages, with some having already undergone the consultation process, and others further down the line, such as Birkenshaw Park, where work was set to begin on the final scheme in April.
