A TRAIN window was cracked after being hit by air gun pellets.

There was major disruption caused to trains services between Leeds and areas of the Bradford district this evening after police swarmed the railway.

British Transport Police (BTP) has now revealed the force was called to the line near Kirkstall Forge Railway Station at 5.26pm to reports a train had been hit by air gun pellets.

This reported attack caused a window to crack.

Officers rushed to the scene but were unable to find anyone.

No passengers or rail staff were injured and police are continuing to investigate the matter.

Services between Leeds and Bradford Forster Square, Ilkley, Guiseley, Apperley Bridge and Kirkstall Forge were affected for almost two hours while officers dealt with the situation. 

Some trains were cancelled, others were delayed by up to 45 minutes and some were revised.

A full statement from BTP said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Kirkstall Forge station at 5.26pm on 22 May following reports that a train had been hit by air gun pellets, causing a window to crack.

"Officers attended and conducted a thorough search of the area, however no one was located.

"No passengers or rail staff were injured and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
