PEOPLE have spoken of their shock and councillors have said their thoughts and prayers are with the seven people who were injured in a horror crash.
Seven people were hurt, including two who suffered life-changing injuries, in a serious three-car crash at 11.23pm on Sunday.
It happened at the junction of Frizinghall Road and Keighley Road, near Lister Park.
Footage circulating on social media showed a scene of chaos and a car on fire, while people living in the area reported hearing a "massive bang" as the crash happened.
One T&A reader said they passed and saw a car "completely engulfed in flames" and described it as an "absolutely horrendous sight".
Large cordons were in place and there were road closures at the bottom of Emm Lane, the top of Frizinghall Road, and that section of Keighley Road.
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: "Seven people were taken to hospital, two people suffered serious life-changing injuries whilst the others were treated for minor injuries.
"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police via 101 or use the live chat facility at westyorkshire.police.uk/contactus quoting log 2238 of May 21."
A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.36pm to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on Keighley Road, Frizinghall, Bradford.
"We sent a number of ambulances, a critical care paramedic and a team leader.
"We took five patients to a number of different hospitals."
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Shipley and Fairweather Green to the crash, and one spokesperson described the incident as "quite serious".
Councillor Nussrat Mohammed (Lab, Heaton) said: "The police have given us a report and there are still investigating how it happened, but as far as I'm aware the people taken to hospital are stable.
"There's been no loss of life and that's a blessing in itself.
"We're hoping those involved will recover, and our thoughts and prayers are with those involved and we wish them a speedy recovery.
"I'd like to thank the police and ambulance crews for getting to the scene as quick as they did.
"It's mind-boggling how a crash at that junction might have occurred."
Councillor Ibrar Hussain (Lab, Heaton), added: "We received a report from police about this quite significant crash.
"It's very concerning that there were very serious injuries.
"My thoughts are with those who have been injured and their families."
On Monday morning, there was sand covering oil that had leaked onto the road and tyre tread marks showed a point where a vehicle had skidded.
People living in the area described the scene and its aftermath.
Stacey Ross, of Ferndale Grove, said: "My partner and I heard a big bang.
"We thought someone had smashed into a railing."
She said a fire then started in the car and "one person looked in a bad way".
"It's scary isn't it? There were people in the car and they were pulling them out."
She added: "I'm just really concerned for the people who were in the car."
A Keighley Road resident said: "I heard a bang and saw the flashing lights. There were police everywhere. It is shocking."
Another Keighley Road resident said: "I heard a massive bang and saw the flashing lights and a lot of police cars."
Kate Shopland, of Frizinghall Road, said: "I was watching television and getting ready for bed when I looked outside and saw the aftermath of the crash.
"I saw the flashing lights. There were so many response vehicles.
"I went out and had a look and saw quite a bit of smoke at the top of the road.
"There was definitely a heavy police presence. I just hope everyone's all right.
"There are so many crashes in Bradford."
A Frizinghall Road resident: "I didn't see or hear anything last night because I was fast asleep.
"But when I seen the footage on social media, it is shocking."
Cllr Mohammed praised the emergency services and said police were able to carry out their investigation and clear the scene in good time.
"That is a major junction which goes in and out of Bradford, and they are a couple schools around there so traffic would have been a concern," she said.
