RESIDENTS in an area of Bradford are having their weekends "ruined" by the noise from quad-bikes and motorbikes, according to a councillor.
Councillor Matt Edwards (Green, Tong) has spoken after police seized a motorbike and quad-bike in the Bierley area yesterday.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Bradford South Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) were called to reports of quad-bikes and motorcycles that had been used anti-socially being stored in fields off Ferrand Avenue and Fallowfield Drive.
They searched the area and found four quad-bikes and a motorbike hidden in trees there.
Checks showed the white, black and red Benelli motorbike had been stolen from Batley.
This was seized and the owner has been notified of its discovery.
One of the quad-bikes - a green Grizzly vehicle - was seized as well, as officers suspect it was stolen.
Investigations into this matter are continuing.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said the other quad-bikes were "legitimately owned" but officers added warning markers against them in the system.
Cllr Edwards said: “This is another big success for the Tong Ward Neighbourhood Policing Team who are working hard to tackle anti-social use of quads and bikes around the south of Bradford.
"Not only are the riders causing misery for local residents but as we’ve seen some of these vehicles are also stolen from people who have worked hard to buy them.
“This is a residential area and residents in this part of Bierley are having their weekends ruined by the noise from these bikes.
"I’ve been in touch with the land owner of the field who have told me they are looking to get the damaged fence repaired as soon as possible.”
The Bradford South NPT said: "Thanks to our communities for the reports, we cannot do the job we do without community intelligence."
West Yorkshire Police runs a dedicated initiative called Operation Steerside to tackle anti-social and dangerous driving.
It initially focused on enforcement against the so-called "fatal four" – speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, drink and drug driving and using a mobile phone whilst at the wheel.
But its area of work was subsequently widened to cover all types of dangerous, anti-social or illegal vehicle use.
The scheme has its own unit - the Steerside Enforcement Team - that works across the Bradford district.
Officers are deployed seven days a week in cars and on bikes to take action against anyone whose driving falls below the required standard.
