NEW figures show that unemployment across Bradford has risen again, reaching the level last seen a year ago.
According to the Office for National Statistics data, there were 22,970 people in Bradford claiming out-of-work benefits in April.
This represents a rise of 670 people or 3.0 per cent on the previous month.
The claimant count rate also rose to hit 6.8 per cent, last seen in May 2022. This compares to a rate of 4.2 per cent regionally and 3.8 per cent nationally.
It does, however, represent a decrease on the same time last year, when there were 23,620 people claiming unemployment benefits in the district in April 2022 – a fall of 2.8 per cent.
Bal Singh, Jobcentre manager in Bradford said that they are focussing on increasing the labour force to help businesses fill their vacancies.
“We’re linking up with employers, holding regular jobs fairs and pre-employment training.’’
He added: ‘’Bradford Jobcentre recently held a fantastic jobs fair event, with over 20 employers and training providers supporting our claimants on the day.
“The event was very well attended with great feedback on the number and types of employers present on the day. Employers included First Bus, Skipton Building Society, Bradford Council and Vision Care to name but a few.”
