A MAN who stole an £18,000 car in Queensbury has been jailed.
The case against George Webster, 30, was proved in his absence after he failed to turn up to a trial at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court last month.
Webster was found guilty of theft of a motor vehicle, namely a Volkswagen Golf, at Queensbury which happened in February 2021.
He had denied the offence and elected a trial at the magistrates’ court.
Webster, whose address was listed as c/o Bloom Street, Manchester, was sentenced on May 4 at Leeds Magistrates’ Court to a total of five weeks imprisonment.
He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £128 and an application was made to deduct the amount from his benefits.
Webster also admitted failing to surrender to court bail, by not turning up to the trial date in Bradford.
Court documents show magistrates found the offences to be so serious as it was aggravated by being committed whilst subject to a community sentence.
He admitted failing to comply with the requirements of post-custodial supervision, in that he failed to maintain contact with his responsible officer for a two-week period last year.
