A LOCAL charity is celebrating the coronation with a royally big lunch and has extended its invitation to the local community.
St Vincent’s Centre in the Barkerend area of the city is offering food and entertainment to people in the area, to mark the historic moment.
There will be demonstrations, workshops from local organisations, games, music and attendees are free to help themselves to the food provided or can bring their own.
The 'big lunch' will be held between 11:30-2:30pm at the centre, Allenby House on Rees Way, in the Bowling and Barkerend ward of the city.
Ivor Allen, 72, a volunteer at St Vincent’s, said: “We’re hoping for a good turnout to celebrate the coronation.
“We want people to get together, socialise and celebrate; there are a lot of lonely people and hopefully we can get them here on the day.”
Ivor has highlighted how instrumental the charity has been for him, following the passing of his wife.
“I lost my wife seven years ago and this charity helped me, everyday they knocked on my door and asked me if I wanted to come in for a cup of tea.
“It’s taken me a while but I now know there are a lot of nice people out there and now I want to help and get other people involved.
“It’s a day to celebrate and watch history being made with the community.”
