LEGENDARY locomotive Flying Scotsman, which is celebrating its centenary this year, has arrived in the district ahead of a busy month for the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (KWVR).
Some lucky rail enthusiasts and photographers captured the historic train's arrival at Keighley rail station last night (May 2).
One member of the T&A Camera Club said: "Late last night 60103 'Flying Scotsman' arrived at Keighley Station before steaming to the yard at Haworth, ahead of the centenary celebrations on The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway."
"It's very exciting," said KWVR chairman Matt Stroh.
"It's a high-profile month for the railway."
KWVR has planned a number of events to celebrate the locomotive's visit.
This year marks 100 years since 60103 Flying Scotsman entered service for the London and North Eastern Railway and a black-tie centenary dinner experience celebrating this will be held on May 19 and 20 at the railway's exhibition hall in Oxenhope.
Pete Waterman, former part-owner of the Flying Scotsman and a famous record producer, will be the guest speaker at the May 20th dinner and railway experts will give an informative talk about the locomotive on May 19.
Another experience the railway is offering is An Evening With The Flying Scotsman, which includes food and entertainment, at the exhibition hall in Oxenhope on May 26, 27 and 28.
Ride the Legend is an experience that will feature the locomotive hauling trains from Keighley to Oxenhope from May 25 to 29.
Visit the Cab will see visitors receiving a timed slot to visit Flying Scotsman's cab, with a locomotive expert giving an explanation of the controls. Visits are scheduled for this Saturday, Sunday and Monday and next Wednesday, May 10, and Thursday, May 11.
The Flying Scotsman will be serviced in the yard at Haworth and a Shed Tours experience will allow visitors to get up close to the locomotive.
Noel Hartley, business and operations manager at KWVR, said: "This is an opportunity for people to see the hard graft that goes in behind the scenes to give an insight into what a steam engine like this looks like."
Mr Hartley added: "It's fantastic for this famous locomotive to visit Yorkshire. The Flying Scotsman is an amazing ambassador for engineering in general and it's great for us and the heritage of this country.
"This celebrity steam engine has stood the test of time and it's something that's here for people to enjoy."
