BRADFORD businesses scooped up several awards at a prestigious awards ceremony earlier this week, marking them as the best in the Asian wedding industry.

Nine firms based in the city won awards at Britain’s Asian Wedding Awards 2023.

The winners were announced at a ceremony on April 25 at an event in Birmingham.

Saf Flowers Boutique, based in the Kirkgate Shopping Centre, won Florist of the Year. 

Owner Qasim Yousef said: “We are very excited. It’s one of our first awards and we’re overwhelmed with the recognition.

“Half of our team attended the awards and we were actually very surprised that we won the award.”

Platinum Limo Hire, based in Bradford Moor, won Transport Provider of the Year. 

It has a fleet of limousines, Rolls-Royces and a variety of other wedding vehicles.

Isy Bashir, director of the company, said: “It’s very important to be selected as the winner in this category. It puts a lot of trust in people for us to do their weddings.

“We do a good job in what we do and it’s good to be recognised.”

The Great Victoria Hotel, in Bradford City Centre, won Venue of the Year.

Asma Bibi, sales manager at the hotel, said she and her team were "overwhelmed" and added: "I want to thank all the teams at The Great Victoria Hotel for all their hard work and everyone for their continued support.”

Another winner was a long-standing business which has been providing Asian jewellery in Bradford for nearly half a decade.

Mangla Jewellers on Horton Grange Road, Great Horton, won Traditional Jewellers of the Year - for the third time.

The family business was set up in 1971 by the current owner’s father.

Mukhtar Ahmed said: “We’re so excited to win, this will be the third time, we’re so thankful to the people of Bradford."

He said people from all over the country visit and added: "My father opened it over 50 years ago, and then I ran it and now it’s my son’s.”

Beauty Studio of the Year was awarded to Ruby’s Hair and Beauty, Bradford, for the third time in a row.

The studio is based in Bradford Plaza on Leeds Old Road in Thornbury.

Ruby said: “We were very humbled to have won the award previously and this year.”

ZS Productions, based on Carlisle Road, Manningham, won Photographer of the Year, and Dulhan, on White Abbey Road, won Asian Clothing Boutique of the Year.

Farzana Ahmed Makeup Academy was named Creative Makeup Artist of the Year.

Caterer of the Year was awarded to Pakistan Catering on Beckside Road, Lidget Green, which was opened in 1991.

Owner Abdul Ghafoor Malik was pleased to hear the news, he said: "It’s fantastic that we’ve won.

“We’ve been shortlisted on many occasions.

“I’ve been away for a while, so it’s great news to come back to.”
