PLANS have gone in for 67 homes on grazing land next to village playing fields in Liversedge.
The scheme, by Jones Homes, is for land off Primrose Lane, which borders the playing fields which are home to Hartshead AFC.
The site is also behind the Princess Mary Athletics Stadium and Spen Valley Leisure Centre on Bradford Road.
Two sides surrounding the three-hectare plot are already given over to housing, and the remaining side is still fields.
Primrose Lane itself is a narrow rural lane, but the new development would be accessed off Darley Road, off Halifax Road, which runs through an existing housing estate.
The site itself is allocated for housing as part of Kirklees Council’s current Local Plan for the area, although the section of woodland has been removed from what can be developed, leaving approximately 2.5 hectares.
In documents accompanying the planning application, it details how the open fields are currently used as horse paddocks.
While there is woodland to the northern section of the site, there are no tree preservation orders and the site is not within a Conservation Area.
In a website to accompany a public consultation prior to submitting the plans, Jones Homes states: “It is bound by existing residential properties to the south and east which continue to form the surrounding built development.
“To the north and west lie agricultural fields separated by Primrose Lane to the west and the Spen Valley Greenway to the north.”
It adds: “The proposed residential scheme will offer a range of homes, for first-time buyers, families and affordable as well associated parking and open space.
“The application will seek approval for around 67 new homes, new access and estate roads, landscaping and parking.”
The current layout indicates there would be 12 two-bedroom apartments, eight three-bedroom semi or detached homes, 39 four-bedroom detached homes in four different styles, and eight five-bedroom detached houses.
Around 20 per cent of the homes would be for affordable housing.
The consultation website also details how the woodland will be retained, as will boundary hedgerows whenever possible.
It adds: “Jones Homes are aware that the Council is scheduled to undertake enhancements to Primrose Lane to further enhance connectivity.”
Local residents can have their say on the proposals via the planning section of Kirklees Council’s website until May 23.
An initial target date for a decision is mid-July.
