A man from the Bradford district is among two who are to stand trial accused of murder 12 years ago.

Adam Tolwinski, 39, of Devonshire Street, in Keighley town centre, and Ernest Weber, 45, of no fixed address, have been charged with the murder of Dariusz Michalowski.

Both are also accused of perverting the course of justice and preventing a legal burial.

They appeared at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday) to face the charges.

They were remanded in custody and will stand trial before the same court on September 4 this year.

Mr Michalowski disappeared in Birkby, a suburb to the north of Huddersfield town centre, in March 2011.

This led to police launching an extensive and long running operation to uncover what had happened to him.

His remains were located in a field off Hays Lane, a rural road to the north -west of Mixenden, in Calderdale, just under a decade later, in December 2020.

Tolwinski and Weber were arrested in March this year, alongside a third man, Piotr Weber, 42, of Bridgend Close, in Middlesbrough, in connection with Mr Michalowski's disappearance and alleged murder.

This came after enquiries by West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, in association with law enforcement partners in the UK and Europe.

Piotr Weber was charged with perverting the course of justice and preventing a legal burial and appeared before the courts at an earlier hearing in March.

He was also remanded in custody and will stand trial before Leeds Crown Court starting on September 4.

It has previously been reported that Mr Michalowski was a husband and a father whose family had remained in Poland when he came to the UK.

In late 2020, Detective Chief Inspector Tony Nicholson, of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, spoke of how the discovery of Mr Michalowski's was significant for his family.

At the time, Det Chf Insp Nicholson said: "This is a key breakthrough in the disappearance of Dariusz and I’m glad that after nine long years, we have found his body and can bring him back to his family to be laid to rest.

"Dariusz was a husband and father who was working to provide for a young family who deserve to know what happened to him."
