A 25-YEAR-old man who grabbed a female police officer by the throat while resisting arrest has been dealt with by the courts.
Police were called to an address in September 2019 to reports of a domestic violence incident.
But when the two officers arrived, Bradford Crown Court head that Kyle Ward became aggressive.
He grabbed one of the officers by the throat squeezing her neck, only letting go when another officer used PAVA spray.
He was subsequently arrested, stating in interview that he had only intended to push the police officer away.
The officer attended hospital with her injuries – a sore neck and sprained knee – and needed to be on restricted duties as a result.
Ward, of Aysgarth Avenue, Lightcliffe, admitted assaulting an emergency worker, and breaching a suspended sentence order that had been imposed three months earlier for handling stolen goods.
Recorder Richard Wright KC handed Ward a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered him to pay £300 in compensation as well as a £50 fine for the breach.
He said if there had not been a lengthy delay in the case, he would have sought to activate the suspended sentence.
But as it was Ward had completed the curfew and rehabilitation activity days.
