BRADFORD will form the backdrop for scenes in a new TV drama series which starts tonight on the case of a killer who went on the run.
The Hunt for Raoul Moat, which was partly filmed on a green adjacent to Rayner Mount in Allerton in April last year, will start on Sunday, April 16 at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX and continue over the following two nights.
The opening episode features Allerton-filmed scenes including a police investigation with marked cars, police officers and a forensic tent.
Filming also took place at some of the ginnels and paths in the area near the green.
Newcastle bouncer Moat, 37, killed his love rival Chris Brown, 29, in Birtley, Gateshead, in July 2010, then blasted his former lover Samantha Stobbart, leaving her in a critical condition.
The next night he shot and blinded unarmed PC David Rathband, who was sitting in a patrol car. The officer later took his own life.
Moat went on the run and a week-long manhunt followed.
The series begins with Miss Stobbart piecing her life back together following Moat’s imprisonment for an assault. He is then released from HMP Durham after serving a four-month sentence.
ITV’s summary for episode one says: “Samantha Stobbart strikes up a new romance with Christopher Brown.
“She is increasingly nervous about her abusive ex-partner, Raoul Moat, being released from prison, where he has been serving a short sentence for assaulting a child.
“Moat refuses to acknowledge that their relationship is over.
“Possessive and pathologically jealous, Moat becomes incensed when he learns about Sam’s new partner.
“Upon his release, Moat commits a brutal and violent crime.
“On the run, Moat has no intention of going quietly and sets his sights on attacking the very police force now hunting him.”
Inquest jurors returned a verdict of suicide in the death of Moat, who shot himself in the head to end the six-hour stand-off.
The ITV programme stars Matt Stokoe, who has been in Misfits, Bodyguard and Jamestown among others, plays Raoul Moat.
Lee Ingleby, who previously appeared in shows The A Word, Inspector George Gently, plays Neil Adamson, a senior Northumbria Police Officer, who leads the investigation to catch Moat.
Sonya Cassidy, who previously starred in The Man Who Fell to Earth, plays local journalist Diane Barnwell. Vineeta Rishi, who previously appeared in Vera and Three Girls) as Nisha Roberts. Sally Messham, who has appeared in Doc Martin, will play Samantha Stobbart.
