A BUS company has cut services to and from Cleckheaton bus station after a recent increase in Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB). 

Arriva will stop services to and from Cleckheaton bus station after 5pm today to ensure the safety of staff and customers due to ASB. 

West Yorkshire Police have been made aware of the incident where a staff memeber was assaulted and a stone was thrown. No one was injured and there was no damage caused.

There have been increased patrols around the bus station to reassure residents.

A spokesperson for Arriva said: "We’re unfortunately seeing increased incidents of ASB against our staff and, as a precaution to ensure the safety of both staff and customers, we will be stopping services to/from the bus station after 5pm today.

"We are closely monitoring the situation, with a view to resuming normal service as soon as possible. We’re in close contact with WYCA and West Yorkshire Police at this time."

Inspector David Bates of the Batley and Spen NPT, said: “Police are aware of a recent anti-social behaviour incident at Cleckheaton Bus Station in which a staff member was assaulted and a stone was thrown.  No-one was injured and no damage caused in the incident.

“We are conducting further CCTV enquiries into what took place and officers from the NPT and police colleagues have increased patrols in the bus station area to reassure residents.

“A juvenile was recently arrested at the location on suspicion of other ASB by officers and dealt with appropriately.

A West Yorkshire Combined Authority spokesperson said: “The Combined Authority is committed to working with police and operators to ensure the region’s bus stations are safe and comfortable for passengers.

“Following a recent increase in antisocial behaviour and temporary closure of the bus station, we are deploying additional security officers to Cleckheaton Bus Station, while West Yorkshire Police is increasing patrols in the area.

“The bus station is open today and the situation will remain under review.”
