CARS were stopped on a motorway this morning due to an emergency situation.
National Highways: Yorkshire said traffic had to be brought to a halt at 7.18am on the M62 westbound carriageway so emergency repairs could be undertaken on a damaged bridge point.
This was between junction 31 (Castleford) and junction 30 (Wakefield).
This led to long delays building on the motorway.
Vehicles were released at 7.37am, but lane one (of three) remained closed while highways officers continued to work on the bridge.
The latest update was that congestion was stretching back five miles, with normal journeys taking an extra 30 minutes.
