A BANK is set to return to Bradford city centre after a year as it opens a branch inside a shopping centre.

Santander will open at The Broadway later this week after the firm shut its previous site on Darley Street in April last year due to safety concerns. The former site was closed following the identification of extensive structural issues affecting the historic building.

The new permanent branch, which will be open six days a week, is located opposite the Superdry store and features five cashpoint machines, four of which are in front of the branch and can still be accessed by customers when it closes at 3pm six days a week and until the shopping centre shuts each day.

The new branch features 12 staff, who worked at the previous Santander branch in Bradford, and has a digital booth area where customers can access online banking and ask for advice from staff.

It also features a desk for banking transactions and separate, private consultation rooms which will be available for customers to speak to staff.

Kelly McGill, customer services manager at the branch, says she and her staff were delighted to be back in Bradford and seeing their customers in the city again.

She said: “It’s good and exciting to be opening.

“It’s a beautiful new branch in a shopping centre. We have had customers for years and it will be nice to see them.

“Bradford has always been a very, very busy branch.

“There are only two or three branches in shopping centres in the company.”

While there was no branch in the city, Santander customers could make use of a courtesy bus service. The bus departed opposite The Midland Hotel on Cheapside and went to the Santander branch in Shipley.

During the firm’s time away from the city itself, customers were able to access various banking services by visiting their local Post Office.

They could also manage their account via online or mobile banking, or through telephone banking.

Santander is the latest new addition to The Broadway. US sports retailer Lids opened up a store in September, while Skechers, Muffin Break and Jack & Jones also opened recently.

Santander is also the only bank branch which is currently open inside The Broadway complex.

The new Santander branch at The Broadway will be open every Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3pm, on Saturdays between 9.30am to 12.30pm but is closed on Sundays.
