A BEAUTY queen who battled through years of bullying at high school has been nominated for a national award.
Clare Hurst, of Heckmondwike, has been shortlisted for the lifetime achiever prize at the National Diversity Awards.
The winners of the national awards will be revealed at a ceremony held at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral on September 15.
She said: “I am truly overwhelmed by something as amazing as this I am proud.
“I want to make a difference and help others to show that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
“If I can help others will make me truly happy and hoping one day I can set up my own mental health group.”
Clare has competed in a number of beauty pageants, winning a host of titles. These include being crowned Miss Heart of European Rose last year, which was her fourth title since she started competing in pageants in 2007.
She has been interested in pageants from a young age and has pursued her dreams even after being bullied.
Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus last year, Clare said: “I knew that I wanted to compete in pageants and so I didn’t let it bother me and now my bullies have apologised for all the hurtful things they said.”
