A PROJECT aiming to bring modern ballet dancing to young beginners in Bradford is holding auditions this summer for its latest programme.
Project Resurgence is a non-profit organisation which provides dance opportunities to those who may have previously encountered barriers.
They hope to uncover hidden talent across the city and prove that “with the right vision, guidance and passion – anything is possible”.
The man behind the scheme is Martin Howland, a former principal dancer from the Royal Ballet.
After beginning with its first project Alpha last year, which was for 15-year-olds, the organisation is back with its second project, known as Beta.
This will involve young children in Bradford, so anyone currently in years three or four at a Bradford school with zero dance experience.
A spokesman said: “The main objective for our project is that absolute beginners, who have had no previous access to dance or may have preconceived ideas of what dance is, what dancers look like, or have never seen themselves represented in dance before, and prove that with the right training, vision and passion, anyone can achieve.”
They stressed that the 30 students that are successful at the auditions in July will receive a year’s free training at no cost whatsoever to their parents and carers.
They added: “They will be trained by the best in the industry including sports psychologists and a strength and conditioning team to create dancers and athletes of the future.”
Ahead of the auditions, Project Resurgence held a workshop at Hill Top Primary School in Low Moor.
Mr Howland said: “A truly wonderful experience working with these amazing young children although it is evident that ballet and dance are still perceived by stereotypical cliches which has given us even more determination to dispel the myths.
“21st-century ballet is done to the latest dance tracks and develops phenomenal athletes with unbelievable strength, coordination and agility.
“Come along on our free audition for a high-energy, fun-packed 21st-century experience.”
Project Beta will begin in September 2023 with auditions being held at Tong Leadership Academy on July 15, from 9.30am to 2pm.
Children must have zero dance experience and not be attending a current dance school. They must also currently be in years three or four of a Bradford school.
Successful applications will receive a free year of technical dance training.
