AN inquest into the death of a man who died in a road tragedy earlier this month was opened today.

Rajasib Ali, 51, died on March 13 after a serious collision in Marley Street in Keighley

A police statement released at the time said: “Officers were called shortly after midday on Monday (March 13) to Marley Street, Keighley, to a report of a serious collision involving a 51-year-old pedestrian and a Mercedes Sprinter van.

“It is understood that the van had rolled backwards and collided with him.

“He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene."

The inquest into Mr Ali’s death was opened at Bradford Coroners' Court and was led by assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst.

“Sadly, this was a road traffic collision death,” she said.

“Therefore, quite a bit of evidence needs to be obtained.”

Ms Brocklehurst explained that a forensic post-mortem report has been requested to be filed within 40 days, and that she also requires a statement from Mr Ali’s family to be filed within 21 days.

She also requested a statement from Mr Ali’s GP to be filed within 21 days, a toxicology report within 28 days, an investigational police report within 12 weeks and a further police report within 28 days.

“I direct that this file should be reviewed on May 25 and will conclude on August 17,” she added.

Tributes poured in as the sad news of Mr Ali's death broke.

He was described as "very humble and a great man" and a "true diamond".
