A LOCAL resident has spoken out about speeding, traffic and parking concerns along a busy Bradford road.
Jason Bastow, who lives on Wibsey Park Avenue in Wibsey, has said the road has a number of issues with speeding cars, parking problems and increased traffic in the area.
Mr Bastow said: "They come off the St Enochs roundabout and absolutely fly through here.
"It's a straight open road and there are no crossing areas. It's crazy."
He spoke about a traffic calming scheme being planned for Wibsey Park Avenue.
A £45,000 scheme planning traffic calming measures for Wibsey Park Avenue and Fairfield Avenue was due to be discussed at a meeting of the Bradford South Area Committee tonight (Thursday), a proposal which Bradford Council has said will "target sections of the route with a proven history of injury-related traffic collisions".
Mr Bastow said it is further up from many of the problems in the area.
"There are parking problems where the road narrows," he said. "They have to stop people from parking where they want.
"The problem is all of Wibsey is used as a cut-through.
"We've seen a massive increase in traffic through the village."
He said that traffic, particularly heavy goods vehicles, has increased since the introduction of the Clean Air Zone.
"It's had a knock-on effect on our road," he said.
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “Traffic calming measures have been proposed for Wibsey Park Avenue and Farfield Avenue.
“However, due to a limited budget, the proposed measures will target sections of the route with a proven history of injury-related traffic collisions. This is in order to achieve best value from the Safe Roads budget.
“Representations received in response to the proposals were due to be considered by the Bradford South Area Committee at its meeting on March 16, 2023, but the item is to be deferred for consideration at a future meeting.
“Previous requests for parking restrictions in this area have resulted in an item being added to the waiting list for a Traffic Regulation Order (the legal Order required to enable implementation and enforcement of parking restrictions).
“Unfortunately such orders involve a lengthy and costly legal process and so only a limited number can be processed each financial year. Whilst funding has not been allocated to date, this item will remain on the list for consideration as and when future appropriate budgets are prioritised.
“We have carried out an extensive monitoring and evaluation programme for the Clean Air Zone, monitoring traffic in 21 sites across the district. This included Moore Avenue and Beacon Road in Wibsey.
“The data from this shows there has been no displacement of traffic in any of these sites since the CAZ was introduced.”
Cllr Sabiya Khan (Lab, Wibsey) said: "I have been liaising with Mr Bastow and my colleagues in the Royds ward about this road.
"I do understand where he is coming from but we have been working with our police colleagues to address the speed concerns."
She also explained that there is only so much money from the Bradford South Area Committee to go around for schemes across the ward.
"Our hands are tied with the resources we have," she said. "We do the best we can with what we have."
