BRADFORD Council has revealed the nature of work being undertaken on the ground around the former Richard Dunn Sports Centre.
Equipment was moved onto the site last week and residents have seen holes being drilled in the ground.
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “Our contractors are undertaking borehole investigations to determine the make-up of the ground in the area.
"These boreholes are necessary as the area under the old all-weather pitches is made up of fill ground and the quality and bearing capacity of that ground affects the potential site viability should any schemes progress.”
One resident told the T&A: "Workmen moved on to the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, and they have set up drilling rigs around the all-weather pitches and are boring sinkholes.
"Diggers are also digging up various parts of the pitches. Judging by all the coloured paint marking areas around the pitches, a lot of work is being planned."
Cllr Sabiya Khan (Lab, Wibsey) said: "We've been informed about the work as some residents who live nearby have been concerned about what's going on.
"Some investigations are being undertaken on the ground because they want to check how stable it is.
"I've been assured they've tried to make the work at least intrusive as possible to be mindful of residents."
