AN ARTIST from Bradford created a bespoke portrait of Anita Rani for her installation as chancellor at the University of Bradford on Monday.

Oyedotun Oyesomi used charcoal and oil paints to create the piece.

The 28-year-old, who is currently studying an MSc in digital and strategic marketing at Bradford, said: “It’s a real joy to be able to take part in the celebrations.”

Nigerian-born Oyedotun only had four hours to complete the piece, and earlier said: “I will be influenced by the emotions I feel on the day from the people around me, from the venue and the entertainment.”

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Oyedotun works as a product marketing specialist but became a professional artist in 2015, and his work has been featured in exhibitions across Africa.

He volunteers at One In A Million, a free school in Bradford founded by Wayne Jacobs, where he teaches 20 students and plans to showcase their creativity in an exhibition in June.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“I’m happy to give something back. When I was 11, I was inspired by a retired art professor, he had a big influence on me” Oyedotun said.

“Arts allows children to have a voice. A lot of children find solace in art.

“It also gives them confidence. It’s a lifestyle, but it’s also about understanding life.”
