PLANS for an agricultural building in Norwood Green have been turned down after a flurry of local objections about its look and size.
The bid was for a 20m by 15m building with metal cladding to the sides and roof, as well as a metal roller shutter door, which was to be used for storing farm equipment.
It was planned for a parcel of land north west of Dene View, Norwood Green Hill, in the village.
A total of 55 letters of objection were received against the plans, as well as 31 letters of support.
Objections ranged from concerns over the industrial appearance of the building, its large size which they claimed would fit 20 tractors and that the green belt should be left open.
Supporters said it was good to see investment in the area and it would also help local employment.
But Calderdale Council planners refused the scheme, stating that there was no case for an exception to be made.
They added that there was no agricultural business or livestock taking place on the site and that no details had been provided as to why a tractor, mini-digger and trailer would need to be stored there.
Planners also said the proposed materials were not acceptable and the size and prominent position of the building would harm the green belt.
