A MAN faces a bill of more than £470 after dodging a train fare between Barnsley and Shipley.
Phuh Nguyen, 19, of Aireville Road, Bradford, faced one charge of travelling on the railway without paying a fare.
He travelled between Barnsley and Shipley without paying the £13.50 journey.
The court documents showed that during this journey, on August 13, 2022, Nguyen produced an Anytime Short Return from Barnsley to Shipley. His ticket was invalid because it had already been scanned multiple times.
His details were obtained and he was advised the facts would be reported. Following the incident, a letter was sent to the defendant requesting the fare only, as there was no response a Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent, this remains unpaid.
Nguyen was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £88 victim surcharge and £13.50 compensation for the offence, which totalled £471.50.
Nguyen was sentenced in his absence at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on February 17.
