BRADFORD is to get snow showers today ahead of a yellow warning for further flurries.

The district is forecast to have spells of snow this afternoon, according to the Met Office.

Light snow showers will start in Bradford at 2pm today (Wednesday), lasting until 7pm. After dry conditions between 7pm and 8pm, light snow showers are forecast to return throughout most of this evening. Temperatures will only reach a high of 2C. Heavy snow was earlier forecast for Bradford for later today. 

Tomorrow (Thursday) looks like being the peak of the snowy period for Bradford, according to the Met Office forecast.

After a dry start, light snow will reach Bradford between 9am and 11am, turning to heavy snow at 3pm which will remain for the rest of the day. Temperatures will only reach a high of 1C.

Friday sees the heavy snow showers continue until noon, when it will be replaced by dry and sunny conditions. The mercury will reach a high of 3C, plunging to -4C overnight on Friday into Saturday.

Bradford is part of a wider yellow warning for heavy snow for large parts of the UK for this Thursday.

The yellow warning runs from 3am on Thursday, March 9 to 6pm on Friday, March 10. It covers Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, parts of the Midlands and North Wales.

The Met Office warning says heavy snow has the potential to cause significant disruption on Thursday and Friday.
