A BREWERY which closed last year was named beer of the year at a Bradford festival.
Five Towns Brewery of Wakefield, which closed in July 2022, won the Best Beer award at this year’s sell out, Bradford Beer & Cider Festival, held at Victoria Hall, Saltaire, between March 2 to 4.
Brewed just before the closure of his brewery, festival organisers arranged for the beer to be supplied to the Saltaire event.
The other category winners at the Bradford Beer & Cider Festival were: Best Mild - Sunbeam Brewery, Bramley, Parachuting Hedgehog; Best Brown Ale - Roosters Brewery, Harrogate, Distant Sun and Best Pale Ale - Ossett Brewery Silver King Gluten Free The Best Stout award went to Darkland Indie Brewery, Halifax, Paradise. Best IPA Chin Chin Brewery, South Kirkby, Simpleton; Best Strong Beer - Five Towns Brewery, Wakefield, Absolute Carnage.
Best Keg Beer was Turning Point, Knaresborough, Coconut Enquiry.
More than 110 real ales along with real ciders and perries were available at the festival in Saltaire, organised by the Bradford branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).
Last year’s Bradford Beer & Cider Festival was cancelled due to concerns over the Covid-19 omicron variant at that time. Organisers announced in December 2021 that it was cancelled.
