A MAN has been jailed for driving off from a petrol station without paying for more than £90 worth of fuel.
Isaac Suleman Ilyas, 24, of Haincliffe Road, Keighley, was sent to prison for 14 days after being charged with making off without making payment.
The court documents stated that knowing that payment on the spot for goods supplied, namely petrol, was required or expected from him, Ilyas dishonestly made off without having paid as required, or expected, and with intent to avoid payment of £91.60. This offence took place in Halifax on June 13, 2022.
Ilyas changed his plea to guilty after initially pleading not guilty at a previous hearing.
He was jailed as the court deemed the offence so serious because of the nature of the offence and the circumstances. Ilyas was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
Ilyas was sentenced at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on March 1.
