A FIVER Fest is coming to Keighley.
More than 20 independent shops and businesses across the town are offering special £5 deals on a range of products.
The initiative runs from next Saturday (Mar 11) until March 26.
Organisers say the aim is to showcase the town's independents, but also to thank customers for their support and help them during the current cost-of-living crisis.
The Keighley scheme is being staged as part of the national Fiver Fest venture spearheaded by the Totally Locally 'shop local' movement.
"Independent shops are key parts of our community," says Chris Sands, of Totally Locally.
"Not only do they make our high streets and towns better places in which to live and work, but they also contribute hugely to the local economy.
"They never take the support they get from local people for granted, and Fiver Fest is a way of paying a little back to those customers.
"With the economic turmoil that is happening at the moment, it’s more important than ever for local businesses to think and work together.
"If every adult in Keighley spent just £5 per week in their local independent shops and businesses, it would mean £10.5 million per year going directly into the local economy – which could lead to more jobs, a better high street, a stronger economy and a nicer place to live."
Amongst those backing the Keighley Fiver Fest is Yvonne Bryant, owner of Just 4 Paws.
She said: "Businesses are putting on lots of great £5 offers to say 'thank you' to customers, give back to Keighley and support our community as a whole, while keeping our high street alive."
Another local business owner, Carol Tylor, who is part of the Keighley organising team, says: "Fiver Fest shows that a small change in your spending habits can really make a difference to our high streets. Just by diverting £5 of your weekly spend to local independents, it gives them a fighting chance to thrive and keep our high streets alive. Fiver Fest makes that easy, and it’s fun!"
Simon Waldren, of Totally Locally, says many places have seen "huge" increases in footfall during Fiver Fest campaigns, with a number of businesses experiencing their busiest shopping days outside of the pre-Christmas period.
