The charity Islamic Relief aids suffering countries in many ways. In the year 2022 this charity helped southern Pakistan where the citizen endured a dangerous flood. The flood destroyed many houses and resulted in 1000 people losing their lives. The charity helped those who were affected by the flood by providing shelter, medicine, and food. Islamic Relief helped those effected financially by the flood by “buying them cows,” said Mahfooz Akhtar a manager of the local Islamic Relief in Bradford. By providing cows for them to enable them to sell its milk as a source of income. A local costumer of Bradford named Aamir Khan believes that “the aid Islamic Relief is providing is quite impactful as people are learning to help other.”
A recent act of kindness which this charity has committed was to help those suffering in Turkey and Syria earthquakes. At the beginning of this year East Turkey and North-west Syria both bared 2 earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.8 and 7.5. More than 40000 people loosed their lives in Turkey with an additional 711 Syria lives lost and with more than 1400 people injured. According to Danyaal Khan this was seen as a “great loss.”
Islamic Relief have planned a “Turkey-Syria earthquake Appeal.” Money will be raised to go towards aiding the Turkish and Syrians effected by the earthquake. There is a donation system in place to show each amount has a fixed expenditure for example, £50 can provide vital medical supplies to hospitals, 80 pounds can supply a family a cash grant to only purchase essentials in an emergency, 168 pounds can provide two families shelter and lastly that is the “other” option of which the consumer can give however much money they want. This donation system is moulded for Muslims to give an act of obligatory charity [Zakah] and optional charity [Sadaqah] however this charity “welcomes anyone and everyone.”
Not only does Islamic relief raise money for a worthy cause but they also “build houses” for those who were affected by the floods or the earthquakes. The charity is part of DEC- Disaster Emergency committee. This is when all the charities in the UK come together and launch an appeal. Many charities are part of DEC such as Bradford Red Cross, Oxfam and much more.
An ongoing project for Islamic Relief is the “orphan sponsorship.” This is a key sponsorship where anyone can donate money to provide education for the orphans in need. On the 5th of March, an event will be taking place in Bradford called the “Ladies High Tea.” This is an event which is a women's only event, women will be able to spend time together and purchase food. The money collected will be going towards the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.
Overall, Islamic Relief is a nationwide charity which gains “a lot” of contributions to aid any country in need. This Charity helps countries affected by war or natural disasters stability and encourages humans to provide solidity for the world.
