AN event aiming to recruit girls for future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will be held in Bradford later this month.
Solenis UK Industries Limited, based in Cleckheaton Road, Low Moor, has teamed up with Future Transformation and The Education Partnerships Team to organise an event ‘Women in STEM Bradford’. This will be held at the University of Bradford on Wednesday, March 8, which is also International Women’s Day.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness of STEM opportunities for girls.
Organisers are keen to change the perception of STEM and want to encourage girls and women to consider careers in these industries.
The event will he held at the university between 1pm and 3pm and girls in school years nine to 11 have been invited to attend the event.
During the session, female students will take part in a panel, where they will ask pre-planned questions to a small number of women from STEM businesses. This will be followed by a careers fair, where students can find out more information about achieving their aspirations within STEM.
A group of around 70 girls from Bradford will be attending and have the chance to meet seven companies. Victoria Wainwright, West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce president, will be hosting the panel event.
