Overflowing with rhythm and blues, bursting with 2 hours of pure fun, the swingin, rockin Chicago Blues Brothers are now live on a sensational brand new tour! A legendary tribute to the beloved Blues Brothers legacy, this band has been touring the globe for over 30 years, performing in iconic venues such as the Savoy Theatre in London's West End, Dubai, Hong Kong and even the O2 Arena.
Although it is not a recreation of the ‘Blues Brothers’ film, the show’s purpose is to capture and recreate the feel and atmosphere of the musical comedy. Featuring Gareth Davey as Elwood and Chris Hindle as Jake, the show brings the character and comedy of the movie to life in this West End show. The ultimately personal connection that Chris and Gareth have with the crowd makes the show more unique and customised to each location and themed tour. With their 70s humour and their great stage presence, they lead the way in this West End show.
The banter between the cast and the audience is constant throughout and the lighthearted humour that bridges songs seamlessly links the intervals together and makes the whole experience more enjoyable. The use of a hypnotising moving street on the screen creates a sense of dimension and movement that perfectly captures the mood of a 70s street in Chicago at night.
The songs at the production are very varied and are performed wonderfully but aren’t overly recognisable and many members of the audience unfortunately couldn’t sing along due to the lack of familiarity with the music.
However, with all cast members having a go at solos, spectators have the chance to experience the large variety of talent that each performer has to offer. Enough praise cannot be said for the guitarist of the group for his immense enthusiasm and contagious energy whilst taking it away with his solo in ‘Proud Mary’.
A visit to the music capital of Memphis leaves concertgoers with ‘Jailhouse Rock’ ringing in their ears. Everyone loves the interactive aspect of the show; learning ‘Shake your Tailfeather’ choreography, singing along and clapping to the beat is highly encouraged. Special mention goes to the two senior gentlemen who joined in with the dancing side stage all throughout the performance at St George’s Theatre, Bradford.
John Doully, who is a big fan of the Blues Brothers, really liked the show and remarked, “I felt the best was the guitarist but they all are really good”. The demand for tickets in this West End show meant that John was, ”planning the trip since December“.
Join Jake and Elwood Blues, the Sweet Soul Sisters and the fantastic CBB band for this celebration of Blues and everything rock’n’roll, given by high-energy performers in this engaging show, the mash up concert that will entertain your eyes and ears. A true party night to remember filled with music and dance, come visit the Chicago Blues Brothers!
